Early December, 1971. Mark II arrives in Switzerland to record Machine Head at the world famous Montreux Casino ![]() On Dec 4, an idiot with a flare gun shoots it during a Mothers Of Invention concert and the joint burns down. They ended up recording in hallways at the Grand Hotel de Territet (it was closed at the time). And that's what Smoke On The Water was all about. |
Japanese Album Becomes World-Wide Hit Originally issued only in Japan (as Live In Japan—see last note), this album was soon released world-wide and become one of their best sellers. A single featuring edited versions of both the studio and live versions peaked at #4. Over the years (a familiar phrase around here), the complete three concerts have been issued in various formats. |
