Northern California Folk-Rock Festival

Santa Clara County Fair Grounds, California
May 23-25, 1969
Promoter Bob Blodgett sold the festival with some of these top-billed acts—they were never even offered a contract! Eventually, the event was a success, with Jimi Hendrix flying in for the Sunday show. Led Zeppelin, it turns out, was booked at The Kinetic Playground in Chicago.
Same weekend, cross town, the FREE Aquarian Family Festival took place at the San Jose State Practice Field. Read about it. That show included: Ace of Cups, Flaming Groovies, Frumious Bandersnatch, Joy of Cooking, Mad River, and Sons of Chaplin. Special Guests were: The Doobie Brothers, The Steve Miller Blues Band, Jefferson Airplane, and Jimi Hendrix Experience (who couldn't play as they got there too late).
